My life's not an adventure, but it keeps me awake. Sometimes.

I returned to the states in June 2004, and began what I expected to be a boring life. My expectations were not met. Sure some of it is mind-numbing, but I've been having mini-adventures that keep me pseudo-sane.

1/25 I actually had fun

Jan and I went to Mass together, then out to lunch at Tony's Too. A little bit of shopping and then home. While I was recuperating from last night's festivities, Gussie looked out the front window and got really animated. I knew Kirby must be outside. So we got winterized and went over to visit for a minute while Cindy was shoveling their walk.

I love that we have snow. Unfortunately I don't own a snow shovel. Have to put that on my shopping list. Gussie sure loves the snow. He's fun to watch. He and Kirby had fun.

Oh, the big news--I was sitting in my recliner waiting for Jan to pick me up. I'd already given the critters their treats and had the baby gate up. Something scared the hell out of me--Gussie jumped in my lap. Don't know if he jumped or climbed over the gate, but it's served it's purpose. No more baby gate. Yikes.

My second article of the day is about the phenomenon known as Twitter.

12/4 I'm a homeowner again

After a series of mistakes, mishaps, and miscommunications I finally own my home. Kris and I met at 4 PM yesterday at the abstract office, and they didn't have the paperwork yet from my incompetent mortgage closer.

Despite that, we finished before five. Kris and I hugged outside in the snow and we both said, "Finally." I've lived here eight months already.

We're both very pleased. She's been a great landlord, don't get me wrong, but I want this tax help.

My little cottage was built in 1896, making it 112 years old. (I'll make it's birthday be 12/3/1896--that'll be easy to remember. The third of December is when I bought it.)

We both would have loved to have celebrated with nice dinner and drink, but I had to get to QU and teach the last class of the semester. It went really well.

Cindy did a great job with Gussie while I was gone. And, Cin, thanks so much for putting some salt on my back walk. I wanted to buy some, but couldn't carry it. Anyway, thanks a lot.

Gussie was at the groomer yesterday. I finally found one I like--Buttons and Bows and 24th and Spring. They're open from 6:30 AM until 2 or so. So it's easy to drop him off before work and pick him up on my lunch hour. They did a great job on the "face, feet, and butt" grooming. Yep, I left the rest of him long-haired for now. Figured he had a built in winter coat as a lhasa apso, so I'll take advantage of it. He not only looks like an Ewok, he blends in with the snow and it's hard to see him at night in the back yard.

Yay. I own my home. Love to all.

PS--don't forget to read my new Mental Health Column.

3/23 Happy Easter

Went to mass this morning with Jan and then went to her house for Easter dinner with her family and Jane's. Delicious food. Nice dogs. Fun card games.

Am now home with my pups.

Snowed last night and at 5 AM when I took the dogs out, they were jumping around in it, catching snow flakes with open mouths, just like kids. They ate it off the ground too. Just what I needed when all I wanted was for them to do their business and let me go back to sleep. :)

Last night was fun. Dinner and drinks at the Abbey for Eric's birthday then everyone came over to my messy house. We had a ball though.

Too tired to write much. I need to take a nap before I get busy putting more items away.

I start work tomorrow.

11/10 Fun fun fun

I backdated a few hours so this will show up on Saturday, but it's actually close to 2:30 AM on Sunday.

My flight was more than four hours late on Friday, because of navigation problems with the first plane. We tried to take off, had to abort, and then sat on the runway for an hour. I slept through it all. Hell, I was tired! It's rough getting up at 4 AM.

At Newburgh airport I checked in to get my subcompact car and all they had was a Lincoln Town Car which I got for $30 per day. Not too shabby. And I'm glad I had a big car as it started snowing or freezing rain or something as I drove up the mountain.

The weekend started on Friday night with dinner and some games. My team won Scrabble Scramble--how could I lose with DF on the team? We all won a prize. I ended up with a Scrabble mug which someone will surely get for Christmas. After the organized activities we stayed up late playing games. I managed to stay awake until 1:30 or so, and then hit the hay. Dave and some others stayed up until 4. I would have never made it.

This morning I got up at 7 and met friends for breakfast. Will post tomorrow about the rest of the day. It was a lot of fun, but I'm yawning. Love to all.

2/1 Beata got her snow!

Our backyard view. One is off our deck. The one that has a very white section is the path on the way to Adi's grave. The path doesn't contain any leaves so the snow looks lovely.

Right now it's freezing rain and Rob had an errand he had to do. We tried to buy some sandbags last night for the back of his truck. Well, even Lowe's hadn't heard of that. They said they had bags and they could sell us sand and we could put the sand in the bags. Rob tried to explain the concept of selling full sandbags so people with trucks and rear wheel drive vehicles could drive on the bad roads. No luck. (We're not in the north anymore, Toto.) So he decided to put his lawn tractor in the back of his truck. Pretty darn smart, these Samoans.

All schools were either closed or had delayed starts today. Even Ft. Bragg is closed. Amazing. We probably had 1/4 inch of snow. But I do agree the roads may become really bad if the freezing rain stays frozen on the ground.

Beata took her dogs outside, but they didn't think it was as fun as she did.
